Podcast Work for Sabina
Research into Jobs in The Media Industry
For this podcast task, I began by carrying out some research into some of the sectors of the media industry including the biggest companies and some of the careers available in it. I found this task quite enoyable, as it gave me an insight into what I would be making my podcast about. I also found that the task was not too difficult, yet extremely helpful to pick out which sector of the industry I would choose to focus on (Film), and my "3 ideal job roles" from that sector.
Podcast Research
My next task was to carry out research on the type of content, sounds and techniques used in professional podcasts.
I found this task interesting, as it forced me to listen more intently to the podcasts and notice patterns.
I also found it helpful to hear first-hand the sorts of places a podcast should have music and sound effects.
My 3 Ideal Job Roles Research
The three job roles I chose to take a deeper look into were Editing, Directing and Screenwriting.
I found that the 3 roles were quite similar in terms of the fact that most of the jobs are usually freelance. Self-motivation, dedication and time management are skills that seem to be highly desirable for jobs in editing and screenwriting. For all three of the jobs, there weren't any set or compulsory qualifications, but as expected, recommended qualifications.
Podcast Proposal
The proposal was slightly challenging, as it was different to the previous proposal I had made when planning my film posters so I was a little bit confused as to what to include in my it. To solve my problem, I researched into what a podcast proposal should look like.
When making my proposal, there were a few aspects of the podcast that I wasn’t entirely sure about yet, but that was okay because I was able to plan certain parts of the podcast in certain ways, knowing that, if need be, I could change them later during the script-writing and production aspect of making my podcast.
Podcast Script
Writing my script was also rather challenging, as it was difficult to know how much detail I could go into without making the podcast too long. I originally wrote a largely in-detail script, but when I recorded it, it came out as over 7 minutes long, and thus had to be cut down. In order to cut it down, I prioritized certain information from my research, and worked on wording things in a more efficient way. I then recorded my podcast again, having managed to reduce its length to just over 4 minutes.
"Careers in Film" - The Podcast
Recording my podcast was relatively challenging, as I had to get to grips with new software: Adobe Audition. I had to record and then re-record lots of my podcast due to issues such as technical issues, because I was unsatisfied by the tone of the podcast and, at parts, I felt my reading of the script didn't sound quite right, so I went back to my script and altered it in order to make the easiest-flowing podcast that I could with my script.
Recording Schedule
My Workspace
1) I recorded the footage section by section using the Waveform feature.
3) Once I had completed the whole Podcast recording, I took to editing the gaps in between the set sections I had recorded.
5) I then added some chilled background music, and adjusted the volume of both the music and my speaking in order to balance out the two sounds.
2) After I had recorded each section, I then listened back to them and cut out any gaps or pauses I had mid-sentence.
4) Here I added a piece of introductory music that I faded out as the speaking begun in order to open my podcast and set the mood.
6) I then used the fading tool to maintain a smooth opening and finishing to the podcast.
Sounds Used
I used Epidemic Sounds to find my intro music, and then used a copyright-free lofi chilled beats playlist from YouTube which I selected a section of music from to put in the background of my podcast.
